Character Arc Structure - Plot The Journey
The Character Arc Structure, another of my favourite worksheets, helps me create characters with interesting story lines.
Similar to the 3 Act Structure, the Character Arc is individual. I use this template for my main character, sidekick, and antagonist.
I don't structure the rest of the characters, just the ones I really need to show depth in them.
The importance of good storytelling encourages depth of characters as well as the antagonist. If your story only has one dimension, it will feel, and sound, flat but if you create an interesting, flow to your characters, you'll see how three dimensional they become.
Here's an example of a great character arc I found online. It shows the arc and where each point happens in the story.
Using this worksheet helps me create those 3D characters, the ones readers are captivated by, continue to turn pages, engaged in the story as well as the characters.
Try this next time your characters feel less than 3D, see if you can create the depth your readers want.
