One Step Closer...

To publishing my first book

For several months, I’ve worked on publishing my first book. From learning how to edit, how to rewrite, and then passed it to an editor, I’ve pushed myself out of my comfort zone.

Once the story was in the editor’s hands, I took a breath and focused on how to self-publish. Learning about publishing platforms like Amazon and Draft2Digital, I researched the benefits of all, and read blog articles on which would suit my needs.

Then I hired a graphic artist to do my cover design. This was the easiest step so far. I picked the artist whose work "spoke" to me and would best suit the story.

My designer was patient and gave me a great price for the artwork. We discussed using the rough sketches as freebies for my website. (click here if you’d like to download the free coloring pages).

She is very talented and made Charlie and The Quails come to life. (click here if you’d like to see the cover and pre-order the book).

I’m now ready to upload my work using Draft2Digital. It’s free and has a lot of features I’ll use. They upload my book to many sites like Amazon, so it’s a simple decision starting my book journey with them.

I’ll keep you posted on how it unfolds as I learn how to self-publish and take my work to the world.

Thank goodness for the love and support from my family and writing community. They're encouraging and kind in their reviews of my work. My family supports the long hours spent in front of a computer churning out content I never dreamed needed to get this completed.

I’m loving every second of this journey and can’t wait for my first book to be live. I’ll post the link as soon as it’s ready so you can see where I am in the publishing world.

Now you know how I got one step closer to publishing my book.

I look forward to taking more steps on my self-publishing journey and hope you’ll come along for the ride!

Happy reading!
